Overview
Claude Duet is a proactive agent that Anthropic opened as a research preview on October 21, powered by Opus 5.5. Unlike the Claude app that waits for you to start a chat, Duet brings the work to you: it sends a morning brief of what needs attention, takes tasks you hand over by message, and runs them on its own computer in the cloud, reporting back when something is done or needs your approval.
It carries memory, skills and connectors from your Claude account into the first message, so it can check your inbox and calendar and draft replies, chase unpaid invoices, prepare payroll and contracts for signature, and build briefs and decks. More than 6,000 connectors are wired in, including Stripe, 1Password, Shopify, QuickBooks, DocuSign, Slack and Office 365. Anything sensitive, such as sending a message or making a payment, waits for your approval.
It ships as standalone iOS and Android apps plus claude.ai on the web. The waitlist is currently limited to Pro and Max subscribers in the US.
Key Features
- Proactive briefs: A morning brief puts what needs your attention first, so you do not have to remember to ask.
- Runs in its own cloud: Tasks execute on its own cloud computer; close the app and it keeps working, then reports back when done or when a decision is needed.
- Memory and connectors carry over: Memory, skills and connectors from your Claude account are available from the first message, with no context to restate.
- Office work handled: It reads mail and calendar and drafts replies, chases unpaid invoices, prepares payroll and contracts, and assembles briefs and decks.
- Over 6,000 connectors: Stripe, 1Password, Shopify, QuickBooks, DocuSign, Notion, Slack, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are all wired in.
- Approval before acting: Sending messages or moving money requires your sign-off, and everything it does can be watched and redirected in the app.
Use Cases
- Team leads who need a clear picture of the day at a fixed hour
- Business people losing hours to email and calendar who want replies drafted first
- Small business owners handling invoice chasing, payroll and contracts
- Anyone producing briefs, decks and dashboards on a regular cadence
- Users who would rather hand over a multi-step task and only decide at checkpoints
- Existing Claude Pro or Max subscribers moving from chatting to delegating
Pros
- It comes to you instead of waiting, with the brief already in front of you
- Work continues in the cloud while the app is closed
- Ties into an existing Claude account, so memory and connectors need no setup
- Handles concrete office work such as invoices, payroll and contracts
- Sensitive actions go through approval, and the process stays visible
- No prompting required, since a plain message is enough to assign work
Pricing
Claude Duet has no separate price; access is included with Claude Pro and Claude Max subscriptions. During the research preview it shares your plan usage, and background checks plus larger tasks all count against it. The waitlist is currently open to users in the US, with Team and Enterprise plans not included yet. See the official site for current limits.
Summary
Claude Duet turns Claude from a chat window you open into a colleague that reaches out first, sending a brief in the morning and working through tasks on a cloud computer during the day. The payoff is concentrated in recurring office work: invoices, contracts, briefs and dashboards. Access is a US-only waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers.
