Overview
AutoGLM is Zhipu's general agent, and its interface opens as a cloud phone or cloud computer. You give it a sentence, it clicks, scrolls and types inside that remote machine until the job is done, streaming the screen back so you can watch every step. Nothing runs on your own phone, so local compute stays free and whatever you were doing is not interrupted.
There are two entrances. The life assistant handles everyday errands such as price comparison, booking tickets, ordering food and planning a route. The office assistant handles work such as organising material, writing documents, building spreadsheets and generating reports. The product page now describes itself as a super report assistant while keeping the agent computer entry, where you can start a cloud machine at any time.
Execution supports long cross-application chains running dozens of steps, and you can interject to change the request midway. Payment, verification codes and privacy authorisation always stop for confirmation. Deep research runs through AutoGLM Rumination, which searches over several rounds, adjusts its own direction and returns a report. It is currently free in mainland China.
Key Features
- Runs on a cloud phone: Tasks execute on a remote machine while your own device only issues requests and watches. You can keep using other apps on your phone without the two interfering.
- Long cross-app chains: A single instruction can run dozens of steps across WeChat, Meituan, Taobao, JD, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, 12306 and Ctrip, with the option to change direction partway through.
- Life and office entrances: The life assistant leans on comparison, bookings, food delivery and travel; the office assistant leans on material organisation, documents and spreadsheets. Switching entrances swaps the default skill set.
- Sensitive steps wait: Payments, verification codes and privacy grants stop with a prompt and continue only after you confirm, and the whole run is recorded for review.
- Rumination for research: AutoGLM Rumination runs multi-round retrieval on a topic, redirects itself as findings come in, and assembles a report with conclusions, which suits industry analysis that needs cross-checking.
- Several ways in: The Android client uses accessibility and floating-window access, while the web version and the Zhipu Qingyan plugin cover browser-based tasks, with one account continuing across devices.
Use Cases
- Booking same-day rail tickets and a hotel before a commute, with price comparison, seat selection and calendar sync handled in one instruction.
- Comparing the same product across several shopping apps and returning a conclusion on price and discounts.
- Running industry research through Rumination, pulling scattered data into a single report.
- Chaining message summarising, to-do checks and document forwarding into one cross-app instruction.
- Letting the cloud machine handle errands such as food delivery, rides and tickets while you work on a computer.
- Generating documents, spreadsheets or presentation files in the cloud machine and retrieving them afterwards.
Pros
- Execution happens on a remote machine, so local compute stays free and current apps keep running.
- Cross-application chains run for dozens of steps without being split into segments.
- The whole run is visible and sensitive steps stop for confirmation.
- Two entrances cover everyday errands and office work with the right defaults.
- Rumination adds deep retrieval, so report tasks can finish in one pass.
- It is free in mainland China, which makes trying it nearly costless.
Pricing
It is currently free in mainland China with no ads, and cloud machine capacity is provided by the platform at no extra charge to individuals. Scheduled tasks and API access may move to usage-based billing according to the published roadmap. Using it requires the Android client with accessibility, floating-window and screen-recording permissions, and accessibility has to be re-enabled after each restart. iOS and desktop can handle browser-based tasks through the web version or the Zhipu Qingyan plugin. Sending messages and transferring money inside WeChat awaits progressive permission opening.
Summary
AutoGLM puts the agent inside a cloud phone and lets it operate a pile of apps over there while you carry on with your own work. That choice answers two practical problems at once: the phone is not occupied, and the local chip is not asked to carry the load. Long cross-app chains combined with full visibility and confirmation gates make it usable for both errands and material organisation. Being free lowers the bar to a point where the sensible move is to hand it one real chore and see whether it holds.
Version History
- AutoGLM added with its cloud machine form and free access (2026-10-29): As listed: Zhipu's general agent executes tasks on a cloud phone or cloud computer so local compute is untouched. It offers life and office entrances, chains dozens of steps across WeChat, Meituan, Taobao, JD, Xiaohongshu, Douyin, 12306 and Ctrip, streams the screen throughout, and pauses on payments and verification codes for confirmation. AutoGLM Rumination handles multi-round research. Free in mainland China, reachable through the Android client, the web version and the Zhipu Qingyan plugin.
